Founded in 2007, Zen Systems is a UK-based family business that began life providing IT support and basic telephone systems for local organisations. Today, Zen provides fully managed infrastructure and IT services to a global customer base and is also a leading supplier of 3CX telephone systems.

Interoute VDC is built on its own global fibre optic network owned and managed by Interoute, making it private by default. This allows Zen Systems, to provide secure servers and compliant call recording storage for regulated businesses throughout the UK, EU and US. With no data transport costs across VDC zones or out to the Internet, Zen is able to provide its customers with secure, low-cost storage and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, with redundancy across multiple Tier 3 data centres while complying with data residency regulations. 

Interoute has PoPs available throughout the UK, EU and the US. This global infrastructure enables Zen to provide global least-cost routing solutions to its international customers. All the customers’ voice traffic is carried within Interoute’s secure, low-latency fibre network, before it breaks out at a local PoP.

Zen Systems caters for an increasingly diverse range of IT and communications requirements. For a leading holiday tour operator based in the UK, Interoute’s network is particularly important. Each month over 200,000 minutes of outbound calls are carried over the network using Zen’s hosted VOIP platform. If the system were to fail there would be an immediate, critical impact on the business. To help mitigate this risk, Zen uses two Interoute Virtual Data Centre locations, the first in Slough, and the second in Canary Wharf.
When a large Norwegian healthcare provider contacted Zen Systems to discuss moving to an IP based telephone system for the first time, it was crucial to have access to a low latency network. Using a local VDC zone, Interoute was able to provide the required speed and reliability. After a highly successful initial deployment, the system was quickly rolled-out across additional Scandinavian countries.
