Optical Private Network (OPN)

Traditionally, when a network provider wishes to deploy a high bandwidth network their options are limited, they could either choose to lease individual multiple wavelengths to connect their sites or invest in fibre and site infrastructure to deploy their own DWDM systems. The cost and timescales of the latter are often prohibitive, whilst the former lacks the ability to scale in a cost effective manner. In addition, the customer has little control or visibility of the “network” formed by these multiple wavelengths which are generally treated as individual un-related services.

Interoute have instead developed a product that ties in the cost effectiveness and scalability of network ownership with the speed and flexibility of leasing wavelengths by use of our Optical Private Network solution.

Interoute’s OPN utilizes the concept of optical network partitioning. Whilst Interoute provide all the necessary infrastructure, collocation space, field and operational support and the base DWDM equipment and amplifier chains, the customer has a dedicated pool of capacity along with an option for alarm and performance monitoring visibility and control over the route and capacity between sites within that Private network. In addition, the Interoute OPN provides the certainty of network diversity over a homogenous footprint, and all the benefits of extremely rapid delivery afforded by the "point and click" provisioning technology that the Interoute network offers today.
