VoIP offers new practical out-of-office solutions, says expert

Mon 12-May-2008

VoIP solutions can provide employees with an ideal method of communicating with clients while away from the office, it has been claimed.

The Internet Telephony Services Providers' Association has revealed new services available - such as being able to forward voicemails as mp3 files to an email inbox or redirect calls to a mobile - can make sure workers are always kept in touch.

Colin Duffy, a council member of the association that represents VoIP network operators and service providers in the UK, believes the new facilities help firms maintain a professional image.

"With voicemail, your inbound call is answered by the network, the message is left, and then converted to an mp3 file and emailed to you," he explained.

"So you can pick up your voicemail wherever you are, so long as you have access to the internet."

Meanwhile, T-Mobile research published last month suggests more than two-fifths (42 per cent) of small businesses feel they pay too much for their mobile communications while nearly two-thirds (60 per cent) spend at least 32.5 working days outside of the office each year.
