USB broadband 'booms'

Tue 17-Jun-2008

USB broadband on the run is becoming increasingly more widespread, new research has found.

A new study by Top 10 Broadband revealed the technology is enjoying a boom in popularity due to a drop in the cost of data.

Jessica McArdle, a spokesperson for the website, said as it becomes cheaper and data packages become faster, the mobile broadband market is no longer seen as a luxury.

She continued that the sudden boom in the use of the technology is similar to the way mobile phones suddenly became popular in the mid nineties.

Mobile phone operators could be offering dongles with standard deals as well as fixed phone deals as early as 2009, she added.

"Competition is reaching its zenith in the mobile broadband market," she concluded.

Meanwhile, the Internet Advertising Bureau predicted last week that email will continue to be the best way of communicating over the internet as it has become "ingrained into everyday life".
