UK firms 'struggling with unified communications'

Thu 28-Feb-2008

While businesses in the UK are beginning to understand the benefits of voice over internet protocol (VoIP), they are still unsure about unified communications solutions, a new study has shown.

A study of senior IT managers at 100 UK firms by TeleWare found that 80 per cent of firms have a clear VoIP strategy but only five per cent have implemented any form of unified voice and data communications systems.

Just 16 per cent said they had integrated voice with another data application.

"The move to VoIP for many organisations is almost taken for granted now," the company's group marketing director, Lesley Hansen, explained.

"The challenge now is building the next layer of useful services on top of a converged data and voice network, and the survey seems to highlight the struggle UK organisations are having with the idea of unified communications."

A recent report from Gartner suggested that many businesses in the UK and Europe needed to make modernisation of their IT and telecoms systems a priority for 2008.ADNFCR-1505-ID-18487871-ADNFCR
