UC protection 'not used properly'

Fri 18-Jul-2008

Organisations are failing to take up the protection available for their unified communication (UC) systems, new research claims.

According to Light Reading's VoIP Services Insider, the main problems occur as a result of improper or incomplete use of security programmes, reports vnunet.com.

Denise Culver, one of Light Reading's research analysts, told the publication though vendors are putting security technologies out there the likelihood of a "major and successful attack" on UC systems is increasing because of end users not implementing prevention techniques properly.

"This leaves vendors to wonder what kind of disaster must occur before enterprises realise the need for implementing the security measures on their UC platforms," she added.

Meanwhile, SearchSecurity.com reports this week that a recent Black Diamond survey found many firms view UC as another avenue for data leakage.

Nearly half of those polled in the research said they are concerned about the likelihood of information leaks in their current or planned UC ventures.
