Traditional TV viewing to fall as users turn to the net
TV viewing is set to fall by a tenth due to content being made available online, an industry expert has said.
Light Reading reports that Terry Denson, Verizon's vice-president of programming and marketing for FiOS TV, predicted the fall and added that he believes people will subscribe to "multi-channel services".
Dan York, vice-president of programming at AT&T, also believes that users are going to subscribe to closed-network providers to view TV programmes.
He added: "For younger audiences with a high-speed connection and a mobile phone, in increasing numbers, that's all they will need."
"That is because they will watch shows online and use their mobile phones for voice communication," he told the business publication.
Meanwhile, the vice president of legislative affairs at AT&T has warned that an estimated investment of $130 billion (£65 billion) is needed to meet rapidly growing consumer demand.
