Ten gig Ethernet alliance to provide 'multi-vendor ecosystem'

Thu 17-Apr-2008

The formation of the ten Gigabit Ethernet Storage Alliance has been announced this week, reports Computer World.

It is hoped that the alliance will help those wishing to implement a 10Gb per second ethernet storage system, a daunting task a year ago for consumers such as IT manager Aaron Martin.

Mr Martin explained: "Having an alliance to say, 'Here are the players in the industry,' could get the market moving and make it more prevalent to IT managers."

He added that the group was particularly important as there are fewer players dealing with that level of Ethernet storage, highlighting the need for support in the industry.

Meanwhile, research from Bharatbook.com has suggested that the market for Ethernet products will increase to nearly $6 billion (£3 billion) in 2012, from $1.4 billion (£700 million) last year.

It was also shown that more businesses are expected to change to long-haul virtual private networks.
