Sweden 'is leading Europe for fibre deployment'

Thu 27-Mar-2008

A new report has revealed that government help has ensured that Sweden has one of the most advanced next generation broadband networks in Europe.

The analysis was carried out by Report Buyer and found that Sweden has one of the highest broadband penetration rates in Europe.

It explained that this was due to "an effective government broadband policy".

The report explained that all of the country's 289 municipalities will be linked with fibre infrastructure by 2010.

According to Report Buyer, the report showed that "Scandinavia has successfully deployed new mobile technologies, while it has also retained its lead in rolling out high-speed broadband networks, with a strong emphasis on municipal fibre deployments."

It also pointed out that the distribution of businesses and people in Sweden had helped promote next generation broadband roll out. It explained that 50 per cent of the population lived and worked in the three main cities, making infrastructure easier to invest in and develop.
