Fri 11-Apr-2008

Sales and marketing staff are most likely to waste internet bandwidth while at work, a new survey has revealed.

A survey carried out by e-Media has found that IT managers in the UK believe that staff in these sectors are more likely to use network bandwidth for non-work related activities, Computing reports.

The poll of over 250 network and security managers suggests that the managers take a dim view of the internet browsing activities of sales and marketing staff, according to the magazine.

Sales staff were top of the list, as 43 per cent of IT bosses and more than a third of security chiefs believed they were the key offenders.

Marketing managers ranked just behind them in second place.

Senior management and remote workers were believed to be less likely to waste bandwidth but the results showed that remote workers were believed to be a more likely source of viruses on corporate networks.

The research was commissioned by WAN optimisation vendor Blue Coat Systems.
