Smartphones pose the greatest risk, says survey

Tue 03-Jun-2008

IT workers believe smartphones are more of a risk to businesses than laptops or storage devices, according to new research.

The survey – conducted by Credant Technologies – found that 94 per cent of IT security workers think the phones present a risk to security while 88 per cent think mobile storage devices and 79 per cent find laptops to be a risk.

It also revealed that more than half (56 per cent) of IT professionals do not use a password on their mobile or smartphones.

More than nine out of ten (91 per cent) polled are allowed access to their company network without extra security measures.

In related news, it was reported earlier this week by ComputerWorld UK that the NHS is being urged to reconsider plans for a new central database.

The National Outsourcing Association told the publication there would have to be strict control and governance for the plans to work.
