Server revenue growing, says Gartner
Worldwide server revenue grew by 2.5 per cent during the first quarter of this year, according to Gartner.
The company has released statistics that show revenue has increased when compared to the same period last year.
IBM accounted for 29.4 per cent of worldwide server revenue in the first quarter of 2008, while Hewlett Packard (HP) was the next vendor in the table with 28.3 per cent of the revenue.
Jeffrey Hewitt, research vice president at Gartner, said: "HP and IBM continue to vie for market leadership in the worldwide server market.
The updated data shows that IBM maintained the number one vendor position in the first quarter of 2008."
In May this year, Gartner estimated there will be more than one billion installed PCs in use worldwide by 2014, growing by around 12 per cent every year.
The analyst's research director, George Shiffler, commented that while mature markets account for 58 per cent of the world's installed PCs they only represent 15 per cent of its population.
We expect PC penetration in emerging markets to double by 2013, he added.
