SMEs urged to carefully monitor and analyse bandwidth usage
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe need to make use of a variety of tools and techniques to ensure their business-critical applications get the bandwidth they require, an industry expert has suggested.
Brian Solomon, an editor on the TMCnet website, explained that it was important the SMEs in Europe understood how they could effectively manage their bandwidth usage.
He explained: "Keeping the network up and running is no small task for most small to medium-sized enterprises.
"The trouble is you have to know what to shape if you want to ensure you give priority to the right things."
He suggested using available tools to carefully analyse bandwidth usage as a good place to start.
"One key measurement is application latency, which identifies end-to-end response times and specific network and server delays," Mr Solomon added.
"This helps identify specific bottlenecks that can adversely affect the responsiveness of an application."
