Report highlights economic benefits of high speed internet for businesses

Fri 22-Feb-2008

The report, carried out by Connected Nation, looked at how access to faster networks could drive business growth, website govtech.com revealed.

What's more, the research suggested that improvements to the infrastructure in Europe had meant that broadband services there were now more effective than those in the US.

Larry Cohen, president of the Communications Workers of America, explained to the site: "Both developed and developing regions - Europe, Korea and parts of southeast Asia, eastern Europe and more - have moved far ahead of [the US].

"This economic impact study spotlights not only the positive benefits that will result from the build out of true high-speed broadband networks, but reinforces the critical need for a national broadband policy."

Mr Cohen suggested that faster internet services would allow businesses to expand the services they offered to consumers.

Recent research from the IDC group suggested that European manufacturers were set to look for faster networks to allow them to link more effectively with their supply chains.
