Remote branch market 'set for growth'

Mon 23-Jun-2008

The remote branch market will evolve into a key "IT battleground" as it enjoys growth through to 2011, one analyst has said.

IDC revealed in a new report released this week that global spending in the market will reach $24.2 billion (£12 billion) over the next four years – growing at a compound annual rate of six per cent.

Lucinda Borovick, research vice president, said: "Because the remote branch is the location within an organization that is closest to the end customer, it is the point where the IT organisation must be able to deliver."

The number of remote branches will grow over the next four years, she added.

According to the report, other key factors in IT infrastructure spending include the requirement of firms to provide real time business analytics to remote locations and solutions to address the need for higher levels of data protection and recovery applications.

IDC was founded in 1964 and claims to be the premier global provider of market intelligence, advice and events for the IT, telecoms, and consumer technology markets.
