Productivity reigns over service, according to survey

Thu 29-May-2008

Employers favour productivity over long service, one new report has found.

A new report by the Alexander Mann Solutions firm has revealed firms repetition prefer a competent worker to one that is loyal, Human Resources magazine reports.

The study revealed nearly half (44 per cent) of bosses ranked productivity as the most desirable attribute they look for in staff.

Jeremy Tipper, the firm's director, told the publication: "In the modern workplace, time served is no longer a factor in assessing an employee's worth or performance."

He added "performing above and beyond employer expectations" and seeking out opportunities were traits that could result in staff being treasured by employers and considered for promotion.

The next most important qualities highlighted by the poll were initiative, engagement and being able to fit into an organisation's culture.

Meanwhile, it was revealed by a recent Badenoch and Clark survey that businesses are favouring temporary and part-time staff instead of full-time permanent workforces.
