Poor data management leads to badly made decisions

Thu 06-Mar-2008

Badly managed information has a seriously detrimental effect on a business' productivity, new research has found.

The results of a study conducted by IT services provider Capgemini have revealed that almost two-thirds of information officers think that information could be managed more effectively at their company.

In addition, respondents claimed that an improved use of raw data could boost productivity by 29 per cent.

Commenting on the figures, Ramesh Harji, head of information exploitation at Capgemini, said: "That was a conservative estimate. Not everybody can get all of that, but can get a little chunk... even one per cent would help a lot.

"They're not throwing money away, but they could do better. We think they should be aspiring for more."

According to the report, 63 per cent of those questioned said that they had made a very important decision without consulting the right data.

A further 28 per cent claimed that they did this as many as five times every day.ADNFCR-1505-ID-18499034-ADNFCR
