PC pricing pressure to continue in UK, says IDC

Tue 08-Jul-2008

Industry analyst IDC has warned pricing pressure in the UK's competitive PC market will not soften in the foreseeable future.

It highlights notebook sales as a particularly strong market for the rest of 2008, despite current economic concerns.

The organisation's quarterly PC tracker gathers vendor and product data from 55 countries and found the first three months of 2008 recorded a 41.8 per cent growth rate in notebook products.

Lucie Jichova, research analyst for IDC's EMEA PC research group, says: "Economic pressure will continue to drive cautious spending behaviour, but the arrival of low-cost ultraportables, increasing traction of telco bundles, and mobile solutions in the business space, will maintain strong momentum in the notebook market in the second half of the year."

She adds competition among sellers and the rising availability of inclusive internet subscription deals will benefit customers by keeping prices down.

Buoyant notebook market momentum is also fuelling PC growth in Germany and Italy, according to two recent IDC surveys.ADNFCR-1505-ID-18675144-ADNFCR
