Ofcom warns ISPs about internet code of practice
Ofcom has demanded that action is taken on broadband speed information, it has been reported.
The UK's internet watchdog has threatened the country's internet service providers (ISPs), saying that a code of practise will be imposed if a voluntary agreement is not made.
Consumers have complained that broadband speeds are nowhere near as fast as advertised, according to the Guardian.
The regulator told a Commons hearing that ISPs had been dragging their feet.
Ed Richards, the regulator's chief executive said: "I think we should aim for a voluntary code in the public domain in the next few weeks not months."
The newspaper added that Lord Currie said that if the industry did not sign up to such a code, a decision would have to be made as to the alternative course of action.
A survey by broadband-expert.co.uk found that consumers get around half the broadband speed the pay for.
