Next-gen broadband 'good for firms'

Fri 25-Jul-2008

The introduction of next-generation broadband will have tangible benefits for European businesses due to its increased internet bandwidth, an industry expert has claimed.

Michael Phillips of BroadbandChoices.co.uk said the industry is focused on distributing high-speed internet connections through optical fibre cables, with a priority on ensuring everyone has equal access to the services.

He suggested the technology, when fully introduced, will allow firms to carry out homeworking and video conferencing with greater ease than is currently possible due to its high bandwidth speed.

In particular, the benefits to the creative industries were also highlighted by Mr Phillips, as next-generation broadband "can move large files over high bandwidth connections instantaneously".

However, the Broadband Stakeholders Group claims firms do not need invest in the data communications technology as soon as it emerges.

The group suggests that waiting for a limited time to allow further information about the technology to arrive could be beneficial to companies.ADNFCR-1505-ID-18702695-ADNFCR
