Thu 06-Mar-2008

The number of subscribers to value-added internet service providers and media content providers is set to increase considerably in the next five years.

That is according to a new study conducted by ABI Research, which has indicated that the number of world-wide subscribers to IPTV services will reach 90 million by 2013. Last year, that figure was around 13.5 million.

ABI Research has asserted that subscription numbers will grow substantially in western Europe, Asia and North America.

In particular, the analyst indicated that strong growth rates would be witnessed in the UK and Germany.

It also indicated that the increased demand for IPTV products could see also see a growing interest in middleware, video servers and set-top boxes.

Commenting on the findings, Cesar Bachelet, senior analyst at ABI Research, said: "The IPTV market as a whole is poised for strong growth. But clearly it will be stronger in some areas than in others."ADNFCR-1505-ID-18499032-ADNFCR
