London police 'tackle fraud'

Fri 06-Jun-2008

London's police are set to launch a pilot scheme for a national fraud project to support banks when dealing with online crime, it has been reported.

The city's police force - whose patch covers the financial district's Square Mile as well as hundreds of banks - will provide a central system to enable the public and organisations to report e-crimes, according to ZNEt.co.uk.

A spokesperson for the City of London Police told the publication: "As lead force for fraud, what we are going to provide is a system to enable members of the public to report fraud and organisations such as the big banks."

Meanwhile, it was reported earlier in the week by silicon.com that the UK was lagging behind other major countries in the battle against cyber crime.

Comparing different nation's efforts, the website ranked the US FBI's national co-ordination as the top response followed by India's city cyber crime units, while Australia came third and the UK last.
