London among IT leaders, says panel
London is among the most innovative and influential locations for the development of technology, one panel of experts has said.
Silicon.com revealed the capital of the UK, alongside San Francisco's Silicon Valley and Bangalore, topped its Tech Hotspots special report of the world's biggest technological contributors.
The website's editor, Steve Ranger, said: "[The] list shows that technology innovation is really a global industry.
At number three in the top 20, London was described as home to 183,000 IT workers with an "infrastructure and bedrock of expertise" to support everything from global players to new software development firms.
He predicted that competition from India and China would start giving Silicon Valley "a run for its money" for the top spot.
The panel comprised chief information officers, entrepreneurs, academics, lawyers and technology editors.
London will host the 2012 Olympic Games a move that looks set to bring further prosperity and development to the city.
