IT gives value for money, according to poll

Thu 15-May-2008

The majority of businesses are getting significant value from IT, according to new research.

Data from a poll by the independent IT Governance Institute (ITGI) has revealed that nearly two thirds (60 per cent) of companies worldwide are convinced they receive a lot of value from their IT activities.

The ITGI polled 800 enterprise executives and found particular benefits through enhanced customer relations, improved cost-effective risk management and higher product leadership.

It discovered that "innovative" firms were five times more likely to constantly optimise their technology processes as they recognise that IT is fundamental to their business.

However, nearly half of the companies had not yet implemented an IT performance measurement solution.

Lynn Lawton, international president of ITGI, said: "Improved IT governance goes hand in hand with getting better value from IT.

"Companies need to determine if they are getting value from what they have in their portfolio and therefore identify what they can do without."

Meanwhile, last week market researcher iLocus predicted that despite the risk of recession, organisations have no choice but to "build out" their IP infrastructure "if they are to remain relevant".
