IT-business relationships will be affected by enterprise mashups
Enterprise mashups, web-based applications that perform business tasks using information from several sources, are having a noticeable impact on the relationship between IT and business Divisions.
That is according to new research, from The 451 Group, which indicated that enterprise application development is being taken out of the hands of IT professionals, thanks to consumer web technologies.
The analyst found that technically competent information workers from outside of the IT department are using these web technologies to create their own lightweight applications that meet specific business needs.
"End users who used to be wholly dependent on IT will start relying on enterprise mashup platforms in a bid to be more self-sufficient in their application development needs," said Vishwanath Venugopalan, an enterprise software analyst at The 451 Group.
He went on to explain that enterprises would maintain a consistent operating environment adhering to regulatory requirements, while release enough control to empower end users.
According to the research group, the next twelve months will see business units take on more responsibility for the development of enterprise mashups, while IT departments shift their focus to developing and maintaining platforms rather than applications.
