Half of firms suffer email failure
A new study has show more than half of businesses have experienced an email failure on their data network in the past year.
Research from Iron Mountain Digital discovered 52 per cent of firms have suffered an email outage in the last 12 months, with one-third being without the service for more than two hours and 17 per cent going without email for over 11 hours.
However, 20 per cent of respondents claimed to have a zero tolerance for email failure.
Nick Cater, head of northern Europe at Iron Mountain Digital, commented: "With the rapid increase in storage growth, email servers are being pushed to the limit.
"This is affecting reliability and causing the backup, maintenance and recovery windows to grow."
To reduce the downtime, 55 per cent of companies are aiming to cut the number of emails held in their data network, with some opting to use remote data centres to store the information.
Earlier this month, research from IDC suggested the use of virtualised servers is increasing, as firms begin to use the technology for a wide range of applications.
