Green IT enables firms to cut emissions, says expert
IT can help organisations vastly reduce carbon emissions, one industry advisor has said.
Carbon Footprint revealed that green IT methods such as enabling people to work remotely and reducing the number of offsite meetings can be utilised in the fight to save the planet.
John Buckley, managing director of the firm that provides advice for IT-conscious companies, explained that green IT is not just about the impact of a company's use of IT technologies but how it can use it to reduce carbon emissions as a whole.
Mr Buckley added that the use of teleconferencing, video conferencing and web-based conferences instead of actual meetings also reduce the carbon emissions that would result in executive travel.
"IT is a great enabler to help reduce carbon emissions, and at the same time can reduce costs for the company in reductions in travel expenses and staff travel time," he concluded.
Last week marked National Work From Home day which celebrated the use of a remote workforce and saw an estimated five million employees work from home.
