Govt blame Fujitsu for IT plan failures
The government has cancelled its National Health Service (NHS) IT contract with Fujitsu, saying the company has been unable to reach "key milestones" in the project, it has been reported.
As part of the £12.7 billion National Programme for IT, Fujitsu was supposed to provide an electronic care records system for the south of England, according to zdnet.co.uk.
However, health minister Ben Bradshaw told the news provider the company "failed to meet key contractual milestones in the core contract and failed to provide an acceptable remediation plan".
In the past, Fujitsu said that there were disagreements over making the solution a "one-size-fits-all system".
The NHS IT contract was worth £896 million and Fujitsu is expected to pay back £67 million out of the £143 million the NHS paid in advance.
In related news, the website recently reported that some NHS Trusts have missed a deadline for the completion of encrypting patient data.
