Gartner: ICT will become a borderless state
The information and communications technology (ICT) industry will be a "borderless state" by 2015, one analyst has said.
Gartner has revealed that emerging markets are to spend twice the percentage of GDP on IT investments compared to mature markets through to 2011.
The analyst predicts that organisations, including governments, will increasingly source their ICT from around the world disregarding the country of origin of the vendor supplying the solution.
Partha Iyengar, the firm's vice president, said that rapid IT growth in emerging nations is removing borders in business and this will affect everyone.
"Organisations must learn to trade and compete with these rapidly transforming, highly organised companies, which leverage low cost, highly skilled labour sources. If they do not, they will be at a significant competitive disadvantage."
Meanwhile, a recent report by Juniper Research suggests that WiMAX will replace DSL as the preferred delivery method of broadband in remote areas.
It estimates that 47 million global subscribers will use WiMAX in five years time.
