Free VoIP for small businesses

Fri 18-Apr-2008

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is partnering with VoIP provider Coms PLC to offer members free access to VoIP services.

Any of the 210,000-member group will be able to upgrade to a full VoIP account that will give them a free additional line, with costs only incurred for calls made outside the FSB members' directory.

VoIP users could also receive further regulation as a VoIP lobby group, called the Voice on the Net (VON) Coalition Europe, has been formed to guide the industry using governmental regulation.

Users in the UK seem to be content with their VoIP services however - a recent survey by Extreme Networks and Data Integration found that 88 per cent of business users in the UK said they were happy with the technology.

Terry Martin, chief executive of Coms PLC, said: "[The free access] is further evidence that hosted VoIP has come of age."
