Firms should ensure security policies are in place

Tue 15-Apr-2008

Businesses should ensure they have the correct security policy in place to guard data, an industry organisation said today.

Small Business Computing emphasised that "good policies" should also be actively enforced to prevent against losses.

A company spokesman pointed out that businesses stand to face financial shortfalls in the event of data loss, as information is valuable to European enterprises on the whole.

"Disaster recovery is also important, and having a secondary backup system that is off-site so you can restore the data," he added.

According to the Boston Computer Network, six per cent of all PCs will suffer an episode of data loss in any given year.

The organisation's research also found that nearly one third of PC users have lost all of their files due to events beyond their control.
