Firms need to implement IT policies

Mon 14-Jul-2008

Organisations need to draw up "very definite" IT policies to govern their worker's internet behaviour, one expert has said.

Web-User magazine insists firms must define what their staff can and cannot do online while at work.

Ben Camm-Jones, news editor of the publication, said allowing staff to surf the internet however they like puts businesses at risk from an IT security point of view.

He added companies need clear policies so all staff know what they can access and that if they should have any doubts they can refer back to it.

"It is something that every IT manager is concerned about but most of the problems can be circumvented with a very clearly established IT policy," he concluded.

New research from MessageLab claims there more than 2,000 new malicious websites were blocked every day last month - a rise of more than half (58 per cent) from May and the highest since April 2007.
