Firms find the right time to embrace unified communications

Fri 11-Apr-2008

Organisations must decide when the time is right to embrace unified communications, one industry expert has said.

Accenture claimed that early adopters are likely to be companies with the "imperative to outperform" rivals.

The comments appeared in an article written by Bob Hersch in computing magazine eWeek.

Discussing the early adopters, Mr Hersch, global managing director of workplace technology and collaboration at Accenture, wrote: "These enterprises will have any combination of communication-intensive and time-critical business processes, mobile team members with constantly shifting preferred communications channels, work forces that are specialized or distributed, and flexible business-continuity options."

In an earlier article for the magazine, Mr Hersch suggested that taking stock of network readiness, migrations approach and choice of vendors should be a priority before pursuing and introducing a detailed plan.

The two-piece article was titled 'Launch a plan for unified communications and collaboration in three steps'.

Meanwhile, it was announced last month that new unified communication systems were set to revolutionise the telecommunications of European businesses, according to Microsoft's Tyler Bryson.
