Fibre connections driving demand, says FTTH
Internet users with fibre to the home (FTTH) connections are using a booming amount of bandwidth, one new study has found.
A report by the FTTH Council Europe revealed those with fibre connections are driving three times as much demand for bandwidth compared to internet users with ADSL.
Joeri Van Bogaert, president of the council, said there is much difference between the bandwidth traffic of the two internet connection types despite mass-market fibre applications not being available yet.
"We expect this to increase significantly as fibre adoption continues to increase across Europe and further services are developed with fibre in mind," he added.
The research tested Nielsen's Law, which states microprocessors' speeds grow by 50 per cent annually.
It also tested the law from a usage perspective by studying broadband traffic patterns across 100,000 homes European-wide.
The FTTH council is a non-profit organisation established to help its members with planning, marketing, implementing and managing the market's solutions.
