Expert: Web 2.0 to drive growth

Tue 29-Apr-2008

Web 2.0 will drive new growth in enterprise adoption of service orientated architecture (SOA) deployments, one expert has said.

Gordon Van Huizen also believes that the proliferation of rich internet applications (RIAs) will also create development.

The senior vice-president of technology company Sys-Con Media told SOAWorld Magazine the largest barrier to SOA adoption was internal staff training.

He added that SOA requires a holistic organisational approach in order to be successful.

Speaking to the magazine, Mr Van Huizen said: "When we speak of enterprise mash-ups, composite applications and software as a service (SaaS), it's easy to forget that you actually need infrastructure behind the user experience to make it happen."

The expert explained that SOA middleware was one of the most rapidly expanding segments in the IT software industry.

"I believe that the increased interest in Web 2.0 and rich internet applications will drive the growth of middleware faster than EAI (enterprise application integration) did," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the publication also stated that there was no question that advancements being made in server virtualisation technology have become popular with firms that want to save money by consolidating resources and improving operational efficiency.
