Expert: VoIP set to boom

Wed 18-Jun-2008

The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) industry is set to enjoy a booming number of users over the next five years, one analyst has said.

A new report by Frost and Sullivan revealed evolving business trends, financial necessity and wise advertising will boost the IP telephony industry, VoIPPlanet reports.

The firm's manager, Imran Khan, told the publication the market will see user numbers grow from 860,000 last year to nearly 4 million in 2013.

He predicts the evolving type of service offered by providers will be a major driver in attracting firms to adopt the technology in coming years.

"People still want the reliability, they still want the availability, they still want quick trouble resolution. All those factors have to be there," he concluded.

A new report by In-Stat predicts the consumer telecommunication market – including VoIP – will be worth up to $2 trillion (£1 trillion) by 2012.

The research forecasts market growth of 5.7 per cent over the next half decade.
