Expert: Jobs in IT sector are safest

Thu 05-Jun-2008

IT and computer-based jobs will be safer than many other professions during the financial fallout following the credit crunch, new research has found.

According to a survey by the Learning and Skills Council, those working in IT security, software testing, network engineering and computer developing have the safest jobs.

It also found that knowledge of IT was among several key skills tipped to help workers survive the tough financial times.

Other key skills noted were arithmetic, presentation skills, writing and leadership.

Sarah Berry, a careers specialist, advised people to ensure they are as employable as possible by going on IT courses to bump up their knowledge in the field.

"Companies are going to be looking to their employees to have particular skills, rather than bringing in outside people or contractors to do it for them," she added.

The Learning and Skills Council is a non-departmental public body that claims to be dedicated to improving the skills of workers in the UK.
