Europe lagging in PCI compliance, says poll
European firms are failing to comply with data standards set out by the Payment Card Industry's (PCI) security guidelines, one new survey has said.
Research by NetIQ revealed organisations are not complying with PCI rules and do not know when they will be compliant.
Some 88 per cent of firms said they were yet to comply.
This news comes just before new security standards for web applications will be introduced on June 30th.
Europe is also failing to keep up with the US' performance as a similar survey found the nation had a compliance rate of 23 per cent twice that of Europe's.
More than nine of every ten (93 per cent) firms polled did not believe the threat of fines was a reality.
In 2006, PCI standards regarding security management, policies, procedures, network architecture and software design were introduced.
The PCI is an open global forum for the development of security standards for account data protection.
