Fri 02-May-2008

The Ethernet Alliance demonstrated select Ethernet technologies at a trade fair in Las Vegas this week.

Showcasing a number of its sector's products, the industry body showed organisations how they could benefit from 10GB technology to deliver high-performance data networking to cater for increasing demands.

It was joined by Opnext at Interop Las Vegas 2008, held in the Mandalay Bay Convention Centre in Nevada.

A company statement said: "These technologies are based on recently completed or emerging Ethernet standards – taking Ethernet into data centres, wiring closets, and building fibre riser backbones, as well as to corporate offices and wireless hotspots, and powering devices such as wireless access points."

Meanwhile, a new report has predicted that the availability of carrier Ethernet technology in packet-optical transport systems will boost demand for such products.

The Packet-enabled Optical Networking Quarterly Market Tracker by Heavy Reading suggests that the sales of packet-optical products will grow to be worth $2.8 billion by 2012, Light Reading reports.
