Ethernet 'enables effective use of available bandwidth'
Fri 09-May-2008
Ethernet can now travel greater distances and is usually at a price point that is making it more attractive to telecoms firms, it has been claimed.
Total Telecom reports Ethernet now offers a cheaper alternative in providing high-speed connectivity and allows for more available bandwidth.
Broadcast, real-time video and multimedia internet services are all reportedly fuelling new demand for the technology.
The director of connectivity services at Global Crossing, Jeff Smith, wrote on the site: "Many observers believe that in many enterprise businesses Ethernet will replace legacy infrastructures."
He added Ethernet could not be "ignored" by companies, or they would risk not being able to meet the demands of current and future customers.
