Era of 'hyperconnectivity' will increase business demand for bandwidth
New technologies mean that European businesses are increasingly demanding more bandwidth, an industry expert has said.
Nortel's Philippe Morin explained that new business practices were driving demand for bandwidth and this process was set to accelerate as firms began to see the benefits of these actions.
"We are seeing significant demands for bandwidth as a result of business-to-business VPNs and the conversion from analog to high-definition video delivery over the desktop," Mr Morin explained.
"Plans to deliver new revenue-generating services such as IPTV, or to sell the latest video-enabled consumer devices, will come to nothing if these exploding bandwidth demands aren't met.
"With the coming era of 'hyperconnectivity', where every device that should be connected to the network will be connected, the staggering bandwidth demands will only continue upwards."
A recent report from communications analyst TelecomView suggested that fibre networks were set to dominate Europe as bandwidth demands increased.
