E-crimes as certain as death, says expert

Tue 17-Jun-2008

The need for IT security is as certain as "death and taxes" due to the certainty of e-crimes, one analyst has said.

IDC revealed the security market in Scandinavia enjoyed growth of some 14 per cent to reach €410 million (£325.849 million) last year.

The analyst expects the European region's market to show a compound annual growth rate of 11 per cent.

Per Andersen, managing director of the firm's Nordic operations, said the market is one of the most interesting and dynamic around today.

"Not only is it a fast growing market, but it will also experience some very fundamental changes over the next five years, driven by new technologies and solutions such as Web 2.0, mobility, and virtualisation," he added.

It was reported by United Press International last week that scientists from Ohio State University have developed a new defence tool to protect computer systems and networks from attacks by internet worms.
