CIOs look to virtualised storage, says survey

Tue 03-Jun-2008

More than half of chief information officers (CIOs) are looking to install virtualised storage – but have yet to begin plans to do so, new research suggests.

A survey by Gartner at a recent exhibition found more than half of CIOs polled believe virtualisation is the way forward while just over one-quarter (27 per cent) are actively implementing the technology, reports IT Pro.

It found 56 per cent of IT bosses think virtualisation is worth deploying and two-fifths (40 per cent) believe their current storage methods will only meet their requirements for another year.

Meanwhile the analyst revealed in April that virtualisation will become the most important trend for servers in coming years.

It explained that firms must make proper assessments of costs, management strategy, approach, architecture and software beforehand in order to see a good return on investment.

John Enck, research director, believes the market will mature within the next five years.
