Businesses must manage VoIP effectively

Mon 14-Apr-2008

Organisations need to effectively manage Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to fully enjoy the benefits of the technology, an analyst has warned.

Aberdeen has said that VoIP implementations need to be the subject of proper performance management.

The analyst's research revealed that if effectively managed, firms can improve the quality of VoIP services by an average of 93 per cent and make call failures four times less likely.

Its research also found that the best-in-class companies have enabled an average of 48 per cent of their end-points with IP telephone equipment.

Bojan Simich, a research analyst at Aberdeen, said: "Organisations are investing more than a significant amount of resources in rolling out VoIP and these investments have already enabled them to save 21 per cent in telecommunications costs and to deploy new functionalities for enterprise-wide collaboration."

Meanwhile, lobby group, Voice on the Net Coalition Europe, spoke out last week saying it believed that government regulations would have a detrimental influence on the VoIP industry unless it influenced its direction.
