Business urged to embrace new telecoms technologies
More and more businesses are embracing new network and communication technologies in order to maximise the productivity of their workforce and attract customers, a report has suggested.
New research from Forrester suggested that businesses in Europe and the rest of the world will increasingly need better IT infrastructure to support networking tools and collaborative services.
It noted that the way people work is altering and that businesses will need to alter their telecommunication networks to make the most of emerging opportunities.
"Today's organisations are increasingly dominated by Generations Xers and Millennials, a workforce that is adept at provisioning its own technology and one that is willing to shun traditional methods of communication," explained principal analyst Matthew Brown.
"For many employees, the telephone and email are being replaced by text messaging, instant messaging, and mobile devices, such as iPhones and BlackBerrys, and social computing tools."
However, the research suggested that this presented some problems for European business. These include how to govern Web 2.0 technologies and how to ensure information integrity and avoid information silos.
