Broadband customers 'demand' higher bandwidth

Wed 09-Apr-2008

Customers are becoming "more demanding" as expectations for high bandwidth broadband keep rising, an expert has suggested.

Broadband Choices revealed that companies are being forced to advertise faster download speeds because bandwidth demands keep getting higher.

Michael Philips, of the internet company, believes that this then leads to even higher standards if those needs are met.

"In terms of broadband, I think that consumers have become more demanding as advertisers set out messages which tell them that they can have things with fast download speeds," he stated.

"The demand is fuelled even further when they don't get what they're expecting."

Meanwhile, a columnist wrote in the Telegraph this month that many Brits now rely on "bandwidth-hungry" services.

She added that 90 per cent of the UK's internet enabled homes now have broadband and that connectivity brings with it a great desire to take advantage of applications such as video on demand.
