BBC calls for greater regulation and equal access to broadband
The BBC has urged the government to ensure that everyone has access to broadband, it has been reported.
In a statement to a Westminster seminar on next generation networks, the corporation noted that pensioners and those on low income had the smallest broadband take-up, according to Digital Spy
The submission also called for greater regulation due to the rise of TV content being available online.
"Audiences watching TV online will expect the same protection as for linear TV, and will want to ensure that their children are safe and their privacy protected. Convergence should therefore not mean the end of content regulation," it added.
Meanwhile, earlier this month the corporation's internet chief entered the ongoing row between the BBC and internet service providers (ISPs).
Warning ISPs not to try and charge content providers, Ashley Highfield wrote in his blog that "unlimited broadband should mean unlimited".
