Analyst: IP routers show growth
Internet Protocol (IP) routers bucked the market trend and enjoyed first-quarter growth this year, one analyst has said.
According to Infonetics Research, while sales of most service provider router and switch equipment were down, IP routers were up by six per cent during the first three months of 2008 compared to the same period last year.
The analyst's Service Provider Routers and Switches report found that worldwide sales for the overall sector were down by one per cent from last year at $3 billion (£1.6 billion).
Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics, said: "All service provider IP router vendors were up sequentially in the first quarter of 2008, ranging from big jumps
to small gains.
"Most of the IP router sales continue to hail from North America and EMEA, although Asia Pacific and CALA both saw very healthy IP core and edge router gains this quarter."
Infonetics has been tracking emerging markets since 1990 and covers a broad range from metro Ethernet to VoIP.
