Businesses slam broadband services in Ireland
A member of parliament in Ireland has said that poor broadband services in his constituency are driving away businesses and having a devastating effect on the local economy.
According to the Associated Press, Fine Gael MP Tom Hayes has revealed that he has received letters from a number of local businesses complaining about the speed of broadband services available in his Tipperary South constituency.
He warned that the businesses were threatening to relocate to other areas of the country to gain access to better broadband speeds.
Mr Hayes is reported to have told the lower house of the Irish parliament that delays in rolling out next generation networks could mean that over 150 jobs were lost in Tipperary South.
Recently, analysts from Gartner stressed that it was vital that European businesses had access to the best broadband networks to take advantage of emerging technologies.
Steve Blood, research vice president at the Gartner, explained that companies were beginning to understand that well-managed networks increased business growth and efficiency.
