'User experience' key to website success

Tue 13-May-2008

Company websites must offer "a great user experience" to attract customers, one expert has said.

Fortune Cookie revealed that a good website is one that users enjoy visiting, adding that firms should think about the whole consistency between on and off-line experiences so that they are in sync with the brand image.

Justin Cooke, managing director of the web design and build company, said: "The way that you can make users advocate to use your site is to create a great user experience - making websites findable, desirable, credible, usable and accessible."

Research conducted this month by Which? Holiday found that nearly two thirds (63 per cent) dislike having to register with a site before being able to use it and nearly half (45 per cent) do not like only being able to search with set dates.

The survey also found that nearly one third (30 per cent) are irritated when insufficient information is provided and 19 per cent are frustrated when a website is unavailable.
